Getting to Know The Drydown Boutique Team pt. 1

by The Drydown Boutique

The first thing you notice when you meet Lauren is her warmth and friendliness. She greets you with a hug and a smile and already your day is looking up. Lauren was the first team member Shaya hired for The Drydown Boutique, and it’s obvious why. Her welcoming energy is reflective of what The Drydown is all about - building community through scent! Get to know Lauren through her perfumed thoughts and opinions below!

What is your first perfume-related memory?

I was probably four. My mom was on the carpet floor with me in her bedroom, pinning me down and giving me raspberries on my neck. She had this big, silver, heart necklace on that kept brushing my face - it was all cold and heavy. Her hair smelled clean, like Pantene hairspray, and she was wearing Calvin Klein Eternity. (such a mid 90s classic! It was my mom’s signature forever.) It’s such a simple, joyful memory, but I’ve always thought about it for some reason. It reminds me that when we look back, it’s the insignificant and ordinary moments that stay with us. So wear the fucking expensive perfume on a lame ol’ Tuesday!

What made you fall in love with perfume?

I blame it on being a Taurus. We’re all about the five senses. I always have the music too loud, too much art on the walls, too much perfume, too much money on Michelin star restaurants... you get it.

Do you have a signature scent?

If I’m being honest, it’s probably the smell of a down comforter and clean sheets on my skin.

What is your perfume hot take?

The perfume world shouldn’t be pretentious. Some of my favorite things to smell are cheap or cheesy or declasse. (Looking at you Downy Fabric Softener, Jergens Cherry Almond lotion, and cigarettes.) Don’t be embarrassed about liking something you like.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 5 perfumes are you taking with you?

I— Dream by Maison d’Etto, Ani by Nishane, Lost Cherry by Tom Ford, 1828 by Histoires de Parfums, Eternity for Women by Calvin Klein (because it smells like my mom), Blue Jeans by Versace (because it smells like my dad)

What is your favorite part about working at The Drydown Boutique?

Being around so many perfumes all day. I like to sit with a scent for a while before deciding on it, so getting that time to really experience them feels special. I also love learning from all the incredible people who come by.

The Drydown organizes perfumes by fragrance family. What fragrance style do you gravitate towards the most?

Changes by quarter. Q2 = Vanilla. Spice. Fresh. Ask me again in Q3.

Which perfume stocked at The Drydown is your favorite?

This is impossible to answer, so I’ll say this: next on my list to purchase are Delusions of Grandeur by L’Epoque and Dandelion Butter by Clue.

Do you have a favorite perfume house stocked at The Drydown?

Maison d’Etto. Every thing they do is excellent. I also really love horses.

“Maison d’Etto is a luxury fragrance house rooted in authenticity, intentionality, and the equestrian spirit.”

Do you have a perfume white whale?

A down comforter/pillow and clean sheets.

Is there anything else our readers should know about you?

Other things I just love: when kittens hiss, Greyhounds (the drink, not necessarily the dog...or the bus), sad songs, fresh chives, the movie Interstellar, mornings, long walks, doing karaoke to 90s country songs, critters (especially the hard to love ones) my cat (Bucatini) and my husband (Taylor). (there’s lots more where that came from - so come in on a first Saturday of the month sometime!)
