Sacred Roots

Inspired by Chiaki Nomura’s heritage and her reverence for one of Japan’s most sacred trees, this fragrance is a tribute to Hinoki—the Japanese Cypress—celebrated for centuries in spiritual rituals and architecture. For Chiaki, Hinoki is not just a material, but a memory: deeply grounding, luminous, and filled with ancestral presence.

Textured Serenity

At its heart, the scent showcases the radiant woodiness of Hinoki—bright with citrus, aromatic pine, and a lustrous, calming elegance. Its spiritual resonance is amplified by Mediterranean Cypress Oil LMR, a resinous, evergreen note that symbolizes eternity. Crisp and leafy with an amber-tinged depth, it envelops the composition in a serene green halo. Shinus Molle adds a subtle, spicy vibration, sparking energy through the stillness.

The House

Scents of Wood is an American house founded by Fabrice Croisé, a French fragrance-industry veteran who wanted wood to be the subject of a perfume, not its shadow. The name borrows from shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of forest bathing. What sets the house apart is a technique few others attempt: each fragrance is composed in organic sugarcane alcohol that has been aged in a vintage wooden barrel — casks that once held bourbon, rye, cognac, calvados, or even maple syrup — so the alcohol carries a soft, faintly boozy warmth into the finished scent. The perfumes are made and aged in New York and finished in Utah, composed with a roster of accomplished perfumers; the house's Plum in Cognac took a Fragrance Foundation Award in 2021. Each bottle echoes the theme — a rounded vessel crowned with a hand-finished branch.
