The Story

Before new beginnings, there is clearing. For more than 3,000 years across Asia, smoke marked moments of transition. In scholar rooms and temple halls, incense prepared the space — softening the air before ink met paper, before prayer met silence.

Across cultures, burning woods shaped transitions, the opening of ceremonies, the closing of seasons. Smoke cleared what lingered, and made room for what was to come.

The House

Ode Ona is a women-led fragrance house founded by Ruth Chao von Gehren. The house composes each fragrance as a state of mind, translating Eastern rituals into scent: smoke for clarity, forest air for grounding, tea for appreciation, water for calm. The six compositions are made in France with Master Noses Emilie Coppermann and Suzy Le Helley. The formulas are vegan and free of colorants and phthalates, the boxes are recycled paper, and the house designs the six to be worn alone or layered.
