Above the Waves is our first creation inspired by tea, a luminous blend of three rare varieties, infused with bright bergamot and profound cedar. It invites you into a moment suspended between earth and sky, where scent becomes ritual.

The scent opens with the crisp clarity of green tea leaves, lifted by aromatic incense and cardamom and grounded in the subtle warmth of infused woods. Fresh yet meditative, light yet anchoring, it accompanies you like a gentle tide, always moving, always present.

The House

Etienne de Swardt founded Etat Libre d'Orange in 2006 and named the house for the Orange Free State of his South African birthplace — the autonomous republic that, briefly, lived by its own rules. The house carries that spirit of independence into fragrance: liberated, flamboyant, and unafraid to provoke. Where most perfumery aims to please, Etat Libre d'Orange aims to challenge — sometimes with subjects polite houses would avoid entirely.
