The Story

Makgeolli is a traditional Korean rice liquor, made through natural fermentation using only three ingredients: steamed rice, nuruk (a natural fermentation starter), and purified water.

The scent begins with a soft, clean note of almond and warm rice. It slowly turns into a gentle, milky feeling, like yogurt and fine rice powder. Soft musk and a gentle touch of amber spread quietly in the background, creating the calm and pure mood of milky-white makgeolli.

Made from simple ingredients and an honest fermentation process, this makgeolli-inspired perfume represents the pure and sincere spirit of Korea.

The House

Villa Erbatium is a Seoul fragrance house led by Minseo Ha. It traces its outlook to time spent studying in Italy, among artisans pursuing their craft responsibly. The name is half Italian: villa and erba, a cultural space and an herb, with tium, Korean for sprouting. The house works from its own formulas and from the plant itself, flowers, leaves, stems and roots, on what it calls the border between science and art. Its Samcheong-dong atelier is built like an alchemist's laboratory, the full range shown with video, music and images.
