Smells Like Falling in Love pt. 2

Hello, and welcome back to The Drydown Boutique Newsletter! Today we are continuing in our quest to help you find your perfect, white whale, wedding scent!

The wedding fragrance is not a one size fits all situation. Depending on what time of year the wedding is taking place, the venue, and personal tastes, what might be perfect for one wedding, may not work for another. That’s why this is part 2! If you missed part 1, it’ll be linked here.

For the Forest Wedding

Terre Rouge by St. Rose

notes: cypress, cardamom, white musk, amyris, eucalyptus, sandalwood, amber, orris

I feel like there is an entire generation of people deeply affected by Edward & Bella’s forest wedding in Breaking Dawn pt. 1. The union may have been questionable, but the execution of that wedding was absolute perfection. I think it proves that woods are just as romantic as florals. That’s why Terre Rouge would be a lovely perfume to wear on such a special day. It smells like finding yourself deep in a forest, surrounded by lush trees, deep woods, and the feeling of being completely at peace.

It is my personal opinion that this perfume is severely underrated and deserves more love and attention. Next time you find yourself at The Drydown, give it a sniff!

Pine by Stora Skuggan

notes: pine, pine, pine, pine, pine, pine, pine “pine. it smells like pine.”

perfumer: Tomas Hempel

Though Stora Skuggan’s note list is quite tongue in cheek, they’re not exaggerating! Pine smells like pine. From the earth the tree is planted in, to the sap, to the bark, to the needles. Every last aspect of a pine tree is made present in Pine.

Speaking from personal experience, I love when my fiance wears Pine. On skin, it is deep, resinous, and absolutely beautiful. Pine would make such a stunning and unique choice for a wedding fragrance.

Iris n’ Wood by Birkholz

notes: cardamom, cumin, grapefruit, iris, cedarwood, lily of the valley, sandalwood, musk, cashmerewood

perfumer: Philip Birkholz

Iris n’ Wood may just be a perfect wood perfume. Cedarwood is a beloved wood note for its dry, sauna-like qualities and sandalwood is a favorite for its softer, and at times, milky attributes. This fragrance is a perfect blend and showing of these two woods at their best. It’s splintered yet creamy, spicy, and ever so slightly green and floral. A truly special perfume for a very special day.

For those shopping on a budget

Cloudbreath by Maison des Animaux

notes: iris, violet, lychee, malted cream, vanilla, tonka

perfumer: Crystal

Weddings can get expensive. An understatement, I know, but being on a budget shouldn’t mean that you don’t get to have an exceptional fragrance on your wedding day. Enter Maison des Animaux.

Allow me to gush a bit. Maison des Animaux is indepentently owned an operated by sisters, Crystal and Joni, and they are putting out some of the BEST fragrances that we have in store and at a super affordable price. We love them for their beautiful and unique perfumes and for their accessibility. That’s why I’ve picked two of their scents for this section.

Cloudbreath is as dainty, ethereal, and lovely as a fairy. There is a remarkable balance between the fruit, floral, and sweet notes. It isn’t too much of any one thing which makes it a stunning wear. We sell out of this perfume constantly because it’s just that beloved. I could also see this working for a variety of different wedding venues and seasons. I could go on, but you get it.

Celeste by Maison des Animaux

notes: clover, orange blossom honey, red berries, ambrette, vanilla, musk

perfumer: Crystal

Celeste has no business being this delicious, and yet, it is. This is the kind of perfume that once you smell it, you don’t want to stop. It’s bright and effervescent, juicy, but still grounded in a resinous sweetness that is never sticky or cloying. Celeste would be gorgeous for a golden hour ceremony!

Bois Imperial by Essential Parfums

notes: Thai basil leaves, Timut pepper, vetiver, georgywood, petalia, akigalawood, patchouli, ambrofix

perfumer: Quentin Bisch

A lot of people on the internet have waxed poetic about their love for Bois Imperial. I’m not sure there’s anything unique I could say about it at this point but, I will confirm it is truly singular. Herbal and green, woody and rich - it’s just such a unique and gorgeous perfume! As of writing this, we have sold out of it multiple times. It smells great on everybody and it’s really outstanding.

It’s the sort of fragrance that smells as though it should be far more pricey than it is. It seems that’s just the brilliance of perfumer, Quentin Bisch. Bois Imperial would make such an excellent choice for a wedding perfume and again, I think this would suit a wide spectrum of wedding styles.

For the true romantic

Dom Rosa by Liquides Imaginaires

notes: champage accord, grapefruit, pear, rose, clove, incense, woody accord, cedar wood, vetiver, guaiac wood

perfumer: Sonia Constant

Is there anything more romantic than sharing a bottle of wine with your sweetheart? Dom Rosa brings this feeling to life. Though it certainly smells like a sparkling glass of wine, there’s nothing cheap about it. It’s light, delicate, and candlelit. I can’t think of a perfume in store more celebratory than Dom Rosa. To wear this for an occasion as momentus as your wedding, would be exquisite.

Genesis by House of Brandt

notes: saffron, cassis, rose, javanol, sandalwood, tobacco, kashmir fusion

perfumer: Kamila Lelakova

Have you ever walked through a rose garden late at night? Would you like to smell like you have? Genesis by House of Brandt takes the rose note and brings it down to the deepest, darkest, and richest place it can go. This is a perfume that is just as lovely as it is decadent and daring. This fragrance would pair fabulously for a later evening wedding. It was made for “blue hour.”

Floating by Liis

notes: bergamot, peach, wild orchid, crisp linen, sequoia wood

perfumer: Jerome Epinette

Floating is aptly named. It truly smells like floating down on delicate angel wings. You may think that a peach note would be too sweet or overwhelming, but this perfume was formulated with the lightest hand. The accompanying notes of bergamot, orchid, linen, and wood, really play well together and create a final product that is crisp and lush. If you just know you’ll be floating (wink) on cloud 9 the day of your nuptuals, Floating might just be the fragrance for you!

For the rustic chic crowd

Macanudo by Maison d’Etto

notes: fresh grass, bergamot, hay, jonquille, wet earth, vetiver, tonka bean

perfumer: Mackenzie Reilly

It is my opinion that Macanudo does not get nearly the love it deserves. I intend on rectifying that today. Macanudo is the most gorgeous interpretation of fresh cut grass and hay I have ever smelled bar none. This is a fragrance that takes the mundane and makes it incredibly elegant, pretty, and chic. It has a beautiful sillage without being overwhelming, and it lasts all day. It smells beautiful in warm weather and on cooler days. It is just such a stunner and it confuses me deeply that it doesn’t get more play. Do not sleep on this beauty! It would be so ideal for a backyard or farmhouse wedding!

Monkeyflower by Stora Skuggan

notes: tussilago, sunscreen, fig, buttercup, chamomile, goldberry, musk, hay

perfumer: Tomas Hempel

If you’re envisioning a spring wedding with wild or native florals, Monkeyflower could be the perfume best suited for your big day. This is a fragrance that communicates so much brightness and joy, you can’t help but smile when you smell it. I know a sunscreen note can seem scary, but it really is a supporting character among the fruits, tea, florals, and hay. The blend on this perfume is so well-done and it manages to smell both elegant and fun and free. Add it to your sniff list ASAP.

Shire by Pineward

notes: hay, oatmeal, hazelnut, bergamot, lavender, herbal tea, tobacco, seed cake, jasmine, orris, honey

perfumer: Nicholas Nilsson

If you love honey wine, you’re going to adore Shire. Though I wouldn’t call Shire boozy by any means, it is certainly honeyed. Nicholas Nilsson is just so skilled at photorealism in fragrance that this perfume truly smells like all the notes listed. It should be too sticky, dense, and rich, but somehow it’s not! It’s sweet and soft and truly decadent. This perfume would be such a stunning choice for an autumn wedding in a fruit orchard. It is simply begging to be carried along a cool evening breeze and into the embrace of a loved one!
